Pismo publikuje oryginalne i innowacyjne prace badawcze dotyczące wszystkich aspektów biologii i ekologii, szczególnie w dziedzinie zoologii, hydrobiologii, botaniki, mikrobiologii, biochemii, biofizyki, fizjologii, zachowania i biologii ewolucyjnej. W czasopiśmie ukazują się artykuły standardowe, ale także dłuższe, takie jak artykuły przeglądowe, które podsumowują obecny stan badań na określony i ważny temat.
